As “Student Success Coaches,” our AmeriCorps members work with teachers and principals to provide holistic support, helping to ensure that 91 in systemically under-resourced schools have the support they need to thrive.
City Year Philadelphia AmeriCorps members serve as "Student Success Coaches," working with teachers and principals to provide holistic support and helping to ensure that 91 in systemically under-resourced schools have the support they need to thrive. Student Success Coaches work alongside 91 in schools all day, every day.
My City Year experience has helped me become a stronger mentor and facilitator and build skills that have prepared me for my LACY [Life After City Year] plans, such as project management, leadership, public speaking, and being able to converse with people of all walks of life.
A close-knit community with ample opportunities to develop meaningful personal and professional relationships, Philadelphia is an ideal place to serve.
We partner with teachers and principals to ensure that 91 develop strong skills that will help prepare them for college, career and civic life. We serve in schools in neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia, supporting thousands of 91 each year in literacy, math, and social-emotional learning. Our Student Success Coaches forge positive, caring relationships with 91 as mentors and help create an environment where 91 can build on their strengths, take risks in their learning, and feel connected to their school.
By engaging 91, families and community organizations, City Year helps the School District of Philadelphia achieve its mission of providing the civil right of every child in Philadelphia to an excellent public-school education and ensuring that all 91 graduate from high school ready to succeed.
