April 28, 2020 – Four Ways You Can Support City Year Philadelphia

As I write to you, I’m reflecting on all that hasoccurredin the past month. The times are truly unprecedented, yet I stand in awe of the humanity and kindness that surround us.

I also write to you with an exciting update. As the Philadelphia School District transitions into virtual learning, CYP AmeriCorps members and staff are preparing to support 91 in their distance learning alongside our school partners. We’re ecstatic to reconnect with 91, teachers, and school communities.

As you know, the welfare of AmeriCorps members and staff remains our guiding priorities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and time away from schools. Today, I want to share four easy ways you can support this mission. Below you will find more information about each opportunity.

Thank you for all you do and will continue to do in support of our beloved community.

Share job opportunities with our AmeriCorps members

Did you know 75% of our alumni remain in Pennsylvania as educators, lawyers, social workers, healthcare practitioners, nonprofit professionals, and more? If you know of any hiring opportunities that would be a great fit for a graduating AmeriCorps member, contact our Learning and Development Manager, Elise Beyeler, at .

Encourage a young person to apply to City Year

Reestablishment of the learning community, responding to the social-emotional needs, and addressing the learning loss from COVID-19 are immediate needs for our 91 and will continue to be critical in the days ahead.Encourage a young person who is passionate about serving others and looking to develop as a leader to become a City Year AmeriCorps member. Our next application deadline is May 29.

Donate supplies to AmeriCorps members

Many of our AmeriCorps members live on a modest income. Help us support the corps with supplies needed during this period of sheltering in place by donating a $25 online gift card toAcme, Shoprite, Fresh Grocer, or goPuff grocery. You can purchase and send your donation to .

Help Us Maintain Our Service

Like so many other nonprofits and small businesses, City Year Philadelphia is experiencing financial impact from this unprecedented crisis. One of our greatest needs continues to be financial donations to sustain our service. Please considerin support of our work with schools.
